    • Next to HCMC’s Ben Thanh market , metro station takes shape

    Ben Thanh underground station on HCMC’s first metro route is being built just next to the iconic namesake market.

    Going 32 meters deep to have four floors, the Ben Thanh underground station stretches 236 meters long and 60 meter wide to function as the most important one in three underground stations of the city’s metro line No.1, which will run 19.7 km from Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Suoi Tien theme park in District 9. Ben Thanh station will also work as a transport hub to link the line No.1 with the line No.2, No.3 and No.4 in the future.

    The four-story station, which will go 32 meters below ground and be 236 meters long, will be the most important of the three underground stations in metro line No.1, which will run 19.7 km from Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Suoi Tien theme park in District 9. It will also serve as a transfer station linking with line No.2, 3 and 4 in future.

    Highlight on the first floor that is connected directly to the ground is the circular space in the center of the station. As designed, this floor will comprises of a concourse, ticket vending machine, automatic toll gate, information guide room for passengers, station office, equipment room, and the air handling room

    The station has six entries, including one at the September 23rd Park, one near Quach Thi Trang Roundabout in front of the Ben Thanh Market, and one on Phan Chu Trinh Street that stands just next to the market. Built in 2016, the project has now been 83 percent complete, and the metro line no.1’s investor, the HCMC Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR), said the entire station will be finished within April.
